The Great Awakening is my seventh book, but it is the book you should read first. The book provides basic concepts and basic spiritual technique that are required if you are going to make solid forward progress on the spiritual path of awakening. The book is a basic book, and most of the concepts introduced in this book are expanded in subsequent writings. However, because of the consolidation of corrective information and solid technique into one location, is still a necessary and foundational read for neophyte to magi, apprentice to shaman, undergraduate to professor, ward to wizard. Herewith is a short summary of some of the concepts introduced and discussed in the book.
Spiritual Awakening: In the book I start off by discussing the concept of spiritual awakening. I compare my concept of awakening (which I develop using the Water Glass Metaphor) to traditional concepts used to describe a state of spiritual advancement, such as enlightenment, salvation, and so on, and show how the concept of Spiritual Awakening is superior to other representations.
Right Thinking: The book also discussed several (seven to be exact) spiritual misconceptions (or outright lies) that have informed our way of thinking about spirituality and spiritual things but that keep us from understanding spiritual concepts and prevent us from making adequate progress in . These misconceptions can be found, more or less I would argue, in all OWS systems.
Technique: After discussing right thinking, I then go on to discuss proper operation of your physical vehicle (or Physical Unit). I discuss the importance of trust and breathing, the initiation and navigation of the awakening process, and common pitfalls. I even introduce the idea of Channeling (a common concept in New Age circles), but I don't talk about them much (I leave a a formal discussion of channeling for The Book of Magic). Instead I take a look at more primitive forms of spiritual communication, like using your intuition or sixth sense, or tapping into the meaningful synchronicities that occur around you everyday (11:11). The reason is strategic in as much as you have to be comfortable with your own intellectual and bodily guide systems before you blow your mind open to the Fabric.
The Parable of the Garden: I close the book The Great Awakening by including a copy of my Parable of the Garden. The parable is a gentle introduction to a NWS theology and cosmology that I develop in previous books like, for example, The Book of Light, The Song of Creation, and The Book of Life
