Self-Actualization

Self-Actualization
Self-actualization, as defined by Abraham Maslow, is the peak of self-fulfillment as one reaches his or her full potential. The desire to be atop of the hierarchy of needs is driven by the intrinsic motivation to grow intrapersonally as lower needs are satisfied. When an individual becomes self-actualized, his or her ambition is to maintain (and also “feed”) this level of achievement. An individual who is self-actualized will exhibit certain traits and behaviors, as follows:
- Self-acceptance (and discharge of judgments and prejudices)
- Need for privacy and sense of detachment
- Independence from individuals and social structures
- Ability to solve conflicts and problems
- Simple/natural ways of living
- Liberal ideals
- Spontaneity
- Strong interpersonal relationships
