An orgone energy accumulator is a device used to isolate orgone energy. According to Wilhelm Reich, orgone energy is a biological life force that has physical properties which can be measured and quantified. The orgone accumulator is a box-like structure consisting of steel mesh layers leveled with layers of wool cloth. Wilhelm also used many other physical materials to prove that these materials attract and hold orgone energy. The metal elements in an orgone accumulator are used to attract, capture, and reflect the energy, while other materials absorb and transform the energy into a natural medical treatment. The client under treatment would sit in the accumulator box and be exposed to a concentrate of energy. The power of the energy is claimed to heal all psychological and physical ailments. In the 1950s, the United State’s Food and Drug Administration filed a complaint against the efficacy of orgone as a healing power. Soon after, the Federal Court ordered all orgone accumulators be dismantled and destroyed. This censorship ban was ordered to propagate against using mystical or spiritual practices as society tends to develop paranoia by any event that is not explained by “physical science”.
