September 14, 1849 – February 27, 1936

Ivan Pavlov, although trained as a physiologist, is highly acknowledged in psychology and other disciplines for his work in classical conditioning. Pavlov’s main research revolved around the digestive system. He conducted his research by measuring the amount of saliva produced in dogs for food in diverse circumstances. Pavlov, in his most popular research conducted, noted that the dogs would begin to salivate even before the food was in sight, at first, he called this phenomenon “psychic secretion” but later referred to it as a “conditioned reflex”.
