Ego Props

An ego prop is any externally granted reward that helps us feel good about ourselves. Ego props substitute for the love, affection, attention, and acceptance that was denied to us in childhood by our parents and The System. Ego props are created by agents of The System as a way of motivating and controlling us through our basic instinctual needs.
