Chela is a term used in the Guru-shishya tradition of Hinduism and is roughly equivalent to the western term disciple.

In the NWS of Dr. Michael Sharp, chela refers to the first Stage of Awakening where the, as yet heavily veiled, bodily consciousness of the Physical Unit begins to question the integrity of its reality and/or look for deeper meaning and purpose in life. Chela's may be identified by their ravenous search for information and knowledge.
